What is Humanitarian aid?
- Preparedness and prevention beforehand can prevent or reduce the possible impact.
- Disaster relief and psychosocial support provides people with sufficient food, water, shelter and healthcare. Psychosocial support can help in mental recovery from the event.
- Rebuilding helps people to rebuild their lives, houses, schools or health centres for example.
Disasters caused by climate change and other natural and manmade disasters have increased in numbers over the years. Humanitarian aid´s mission is to save human lives and to reduce the suffering caused in an emergency. People can be assisted by material, financial or psychosocial means. When disaster strikes, help is often needed fast, and through Felm’s emergency fund we can disburse money without delay.
Guiding principles
Our work is guided by principles concerning humanitarian work, independence of action, objectivity and impartiality. Felm is committed to internationally agreed norms and standards. Of particular importance to our humanitarian aid are the Code of Conduct for The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief and the Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Disaster Response (the Sphere Standards).
Effective co-operation
Co-operation is the most effective way of delivering aid. Felm uses its long-term partners in each country to help in disaster relief. Usually Felm does not send staff from the head office to disaster areas. However, we monitor the partners’ work closely and adjust if needed.
Felm is a full member of ACT Alliance, a coalition of churches and faith-based organisations working together in international emergency relief.
