Crises caused by climate change, natural hazards and armed conflict are increasing, and many have become prolonged. Felm’s humanitarian work covers:
- Preparedness and prevention help communities anticipate hazards, reduce risks and limit the potential impact of disasters.
- Emergency response addresses urgent, life-saving needs in crises caused by natural hazards or conflict. Depending on the situation, assistance may include food, clean water, shelter, healthcare and material, financial or psychosocial support. Psychosocial support may be integrated into other services or provided separately to support mental and social recovery.
- Early recovery begins while the emergency response is still under way. It helps people rebuild their lives, homes and essential infrastructure, including schools and health facilities.
When disaster strikes, rapid response is essential. Felm’s Disaster Relief Fund enables us to release funds without delay.
Whenever possible, we connect emergency assistance with early recovery and long-term development through a nexus approach.
Guiding Principles
Felm’s humanitarian work is guided by the principles of humanity, neutrality, independence and impartiality. Assistance is based on need, inclusive and non-discriminatory, and provided regardless of nationality, religion or ethnic background.

Working through local partners
People in affected communities are always the first to respond when a crisis occurs. Felm’s long-term local partners understand their communities and are well placed to respond to emergencies according to their capacities and expertise.
Felm usually does not deploy staff from its headquarters to crisis areas. Instead, we support our partners, monitor the work closely and work with them to adapt the response as needs change.
Felm is a member of ACT Alliance, a global coalition of churches and faith-based organisations engaged in humanitarian response.
