Felm’s work in Bolivia began in 2004. Its partner, the Bolivian Evangelical Lutheran Church, is an Indigenous church with around 10,000 members. Felm supports theological training and leadership for pastors and evangelists, as well as Christian education, youth work and cooperation between congregations.
Education and protection for children
Children and young people in vulnerable communities face barriers to education, violence and discrimination. The church supports children with learning difficulties, provides scholarships and helps families and schools protect children and reduce school dropout.
The Verena Wells Centre offers accommodation and educational support to Aymara and Quechua girls from low-income families. Students in El Alto and La Paz, children with special educational needs in Cobija and children from migrant families in Tarija also receive support suited to their circumstances.
Water, climate and livelihoods
In rural areas, families face water shortages, hunger and the effects of climate change. Communities and the church build water systems and partly underground greenhouses and develop ways to adapt local food production.
Women’s rights and economic independence
Women learn about their rights, develop leadership skills and receive support for small businesses. The work addresses sexual violence and discrimination and helps women gain greater independence and influence in families, congregations and society.
