Felm’s work in Cambodia began in 2000. Many families, particularly in rural areas, still face overlapping challenges related to poverty, education, health and living conditions. Climate change and family separation add to the pressure experienced by children and young people.
In 2025, Felm registered a country office in Phnom Penh under the name Felm Cambodia. Staffed by Cambodian and Finnish colleagues, the office supports Felm’s work and its local partners across the country. Stronger knowledge of local languages and culture helps Felm respond more effectively to partners’ needs. Its official status also connects the work more closely with Cambodia’s national development structures, strengthens transparent reporting to the authorities and enables Felm to seek funding from international sources.
Safe childhoods and stronger families
Local organisations help families improve their wellbeing, strengthen child protection and prevent violence. They also train public authorities and community actors to recognise risks and respond to children’s needs.
Young people learn about leadership, advocacy and climate action so that they can influence decisions and take practical action where they live.
Education that includes every child
Indigenous children receive mother-tongue teaching that respects their language and culture. This reduces discrimination and school dropout while helping children retain a strong connection to their heritage. Climate-resilience skills form part of the teaching in areas increasingly affected by extreme weather.
Felm and its partners also promote access to education for children and young people with disabilities and raise awareness of disability rights. The work addresses discrimination and barriers that still exclude many people from school and wider society.

Felm’s local partners include First Step Cambodia, Epic Arts, Integral Cooperation Cambodia, the Lutheran Church in Cambodia, Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organisation and M’lup Russey.
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland funds Felm’s development cooperation in Cambodia.
