Ethiopia

Felm and the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus combine church education with disability inclusion, women’s livelihoods and practical responses to climate change.

The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus is growing rapidly. Felm supports its social and development work, employee training and theological institutions in Addis Ababa and Hosaina. The cooperation also promotes peaceful relations between religious communities.

Education and livelihoods

A central aim is to improve the position of children with disabilities and expand their access to education, including through the Hosaina School for the Deaf. Entrepreneurship training and savings-and-loan groups help adults with disabilities find work and develop livelihoods.

Education and small-business support also improve opportunities for groups that experience discrimination. In rural areas, women and girls gain knowledge, income-generating skills and greater influence over their own lives.

Climate action in everyday life

Environmental protection is integrated into Felm-supported projects. Communities prepare for climate-related pressures by developing farming practices, protecting wells and springs, and planting trees to reduce soil erosion.

Partner

Felm’s local partner is the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus.
