Felm’s work in the region began in 1924. In Israel, the work focuses on the conditions needed for peace and reconciliation amid a long and complex conflict.
A safe place to meet in Jerusalem
The Felm Center offers a safe meeting place for people from different backgrounds. Its programmes promote peace education among young people, support mental wellbeing and encourage interfaith dialogue.
The centre also organises tailored study visits for Finnish and international partners on subjects such as peace education, mental wellbeing, peace theology and eco-theology.
Teachers address conflict in the classroom
Together with the Rossing Center, Felm trains teachers and student teachers to lead difficult classroom discussions about conflict. Courses in teacher-training institutions and Jewish and Arab schools offer practical ways to counter racism and extremist thinking.
Leadership and equal participation
Palestinian Arabs are Israel’s largest minority. Felm works for peaceful coexistence and equal rights and opportunities across population groups. With the International Christian Committee in Israel, it provides leadership training for Palestinian young people in northern Israel and interfaith-dialogue training for teachers.
