Felm works in the West Bank as well as in Israel. Its principal church partner in the Palestinian Territory is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, the only Lutheran church in the Middle East.
The church has congregations in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Beit Jala, Beit Sahour and Ramallah, and in Amman in Jordan. Although small, it takes an active role in social networks and in work for peace and reconciliation.
Diakonia and psychosocial support
The church assists low-income families and others in vulnerable situations with food, healthcare, medicines and school costs. Counselling and support groups help families draw on psychological, social and spiritual resources during prolonged uncertainty.
Education and peacebuilding
Around 200 sponsored children attend the church’s schools in the West Bank. The programme includes children from both Christian and Muslim families. High-quality education improves access to further study and encourages skilled young people to use their knowledge for the benefit of their communities.
Peace education in the school curriculum introduces non-violent ways to resolve conflict. A youth leadership programme equips participants to take responsibility and strengthen their communities.
Support for children affected by violence
Together with the YMCA, Felm promotes children’s rights and wellbeing. Children and young people who have experienced serious difficulties receive help to process trauma and return to their families and education. Training in peacebuilding and other non-violent forms of civic action gives young people practical alternatives to violence.
