The Lutheran Church of Senegal received official recognition from the state in 1987. It now has around 7,500 members and 14 congregations in central and northern Senegal.
Limited financial resources and gaps in Christian education, training and outreach restrict the church’s work. Felm and the church are therefore reorganising activities, improving management of church assets and developing new sources of local funding.
Education, diakonia and congregational life
The cooperation develops children’s and youth work, training for church employees and preschool classes run by congregations. Diakonia and the proclamation of the gospel form part of the church’s holistic witness.
The work aims to deepen congregational life, expand pastoral and diaconal ministry, improve work with sponsored children and encourage congregation members to take responsibility. Small local projects help congregations respond to needs while building their own financial base.
