The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) is one of the world’s largest Lutheran churches. Many dioceses still need support to train employees and develop their work with young people, women and children. Felm also supports mission work carried out by partner dioceses.
Communities shape their own development
Felm’s largest development-cooperation partner in Tanzania is Tanganyika Christian Refugee Service (TCRS). Its approach starts with people’s own knowledge and ability to organise. Village leaders and residents learn about good governance, human rights, development planning and the monitoring of public funds.
Training in farming, small business and other ways of earning an income helps families improve their livelihoods. Reforestation and environmental education help communities prepare for the effects of climate change.
Teachers and children’s rights
Work with Tumaini University Makumira provides further training for secondary-school teachers. In schools, Felm-supported activities promote children’s rights and address violence and child marriage, with a particular focus on girls.
