Felm’s work in Venezuela began in 1989. Political and economic crisis has weakened education and healthcare, while millions of people have left the country. The departure of church members and employees has also affected the work of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Venezuela.
Felm helps the church carry out its holistic mission by combining spiritual support with diakonia. The aim is to enable congregations to serve people in both spiritual and practical ways.
Safety and education for children
Many children remain with grandparents or on their own after parents migrate in search of income. Children also face violence and neglect. The church supports their development, helps prevent abuse and offers safe daily routines.
Casa Hogar provides boys and young men with a home-like environment, nutritious food, other basic necessities and support to complete school. Felm also supports the church’s Friendship House preschool in the low-income San Blas area.
Women’s rights and livelihoods
Women living in poverty can access vocational training, entrepreneurship support, health advice and psychosocial care. The work seeks to increase economic independence and prevent gender-based violence.
